about

This piece is played on my Epiphone Les Paul tuned down to C standard. This phrase had been bouncing around in my head for a while, just two words that sounded good together. Here and there I would muse over what something called a “Phoenix Engine” would do and would just let the gears of my imagination start turning. This improvisation just sounded like what I imagined.

I suppose that symbolically the name represents how I constantly tear down my playing after a gig, listening back for every error and killing myself over my failures. And the next day I start fresh, rise again…I have determined that it’s not a healthy habit, overall. The important part though, is the rising up again.
